Yoko Ono's 1982 Album 'It's Alright (I See Rainbows)' Gets Reissue on September 18

Yoko Ono has confirmed a reissue of her 1982 album It's Alright (I See Rainbows). The record was her second release following the murder of John Lennon outside the Dakota Building in New York on December 8, 1980, and deals directly with her grief and mourning. Label Secretly Canadian says the reissue arrives September 18, 2026 (Friday) as an expanded CD and digital release, marking the album's first vinyl pressing in more than four decades, alongside expanded, remastered artwork. The lead track "Never Say Goodbye" has also landed on streaming platforms for the first time.

Ono's 1983 Reflections and Sean Ono Lennon's Account

Ono described the album in 1983 as being "like my diary," saying she wanted to tell listeners that she shared the same emotions as everyone else. She described the album's first half as still weighed down by heaviness, while the second side turns toward "it's alright" — a shift she credited to her son Sean Ono Lennon, who told her "Wake up, wake up, mommy." She likened that moment to an angel arriving to wake her, followed by drying her tears and seeing rainbows.

Sean Ono Lennon, speaking with NPR in 2025, said his mother often described energy as simply energy that could be transformed into anything, and that she always turned negative energy into something productive and creative. He added that this never stopped her from creating or facing the outside world, and that he believes her persistence ultimately paid off.

Ono's Second Reissue of 2026

It's Alright (I See Rainbows) is the second Ono album to receive a reissue in 2026. The previous one was Season of Glass, marking its 45th anniversary, which was released in July as an expanded CD and digital edition along with vinyl and a limited white vinyl pressing — also its first vinyl release in more than 45 years.
