Blur Drummer Says He Pushed for Oasis Reunion — Now Wants a Cut of the Tour

Blur drummer Dave Rowntree has told the UK's The Sun that he spent years urging the Gallagher brothers to put Oasis back together — and now wants a cut of the reunion tour's earnings. The comments, first reported by The Sun and summarized by Far Out Magazine, follow frontman Damon Albarn's earlier public admission that their old Manchester rivals "won the battle" in the long run.

What Rowntree said

Rowntree said he'd been "nagging them to do exactly that" for years, then added, half-jokingly: "I would like a percentage of the gross tour revenue."

He also looked back on the Britpop-era rivalry between the two bands, including the 1995 chart battle for the No. 1 single, which Blur won. Rowntree said the showdown pushed both bands to global fame, making Blur and Oasis household names in the UK and abroad. Asked about the bands' relationship today, he described them as "stapled together at the hip" — like some eight-legged creature.

Where the Oasis tour and Blur stand now

Promoter SJM Concerts, which is behind the ongoing Oasis reunion tour, was confirmed last week to have secured an indefinite permit to hold shows at Knebworth — timed near the 30th anniversary of Oasis' famous 1996 Knebworth gigs. Rumors of a 2027 tour continue to build, but organizers have not announced specific dates.

As for Blur, there's no studio timeline yet; Albarn's focus right now is on Gorillaz. Still, Rowntree insisted the band isn't done, telling fans a Blur reunion "is a question of when not if."
