Jeff Goldblum and CMAT to Open Season 2 of SNL UK on September 12

Saturday Night Live UK will launch its second season on September 12, with Hollywood actor Jeff Goldblum hosting the opening episode and Irish singer-songwriter CMAT as musical guest. According to NME, the Saturday Night Network revealed the casting on September 3. The season's first wave runs six episodes, with additional episodes planned for 2027.

Who's on the opening episode

Goldblum, an Emmy and Oscar nominee known for Jurassic Park, Independence Day and the Wicked films, is also a working jazz musician — he released the jazz album Night Blooms this past June. This isn't his first SNL rodeo either: he hosted the original US version back in 1993 and 1997.

CMAT arrives on the strength of last year's Euro-Country album and a recent live EP recorded at a large show at St Anne's Park in Dublin. In July she said that after six years of nonstop touring and recording she was "literally losing my mind," and announced she will not perform any live shows in 2027.

Looking back at season one

Saturday Night Live UK, the British version of the long-running American comedy show, premiered on Sky this past March, with former US SNL cast member Tina Fey hosting the first episode and Wet Leg as musical guest. Hosting duties later passed to Jamie Dornan, Riz Ahmed and Nicola Coughlan, among others, with musical guests including Kasabian, Foo Fighters and MEEK.

The show has been well received overall, though it has sparked discussion over certain jokes. Earlier this year, cast member Ania Magliano drew controversy for a bit comparing Mark Zuckerberg to Hitler; she responded that the tech billionaire was "fair game" and said she felt "kind of detached" from online criticism.
