Fontaines D.C. Drop 'Marianne' Video, Confirm October Album

Dublin band Fontaines D.C. released new single "Marianne" on the morning of August 18, alongside confirmation that their fifth album, Dopamine Chamber, will arrive on October 16. The accompanying video was directed by David Meyers, continuing the hallucinatory indie-rock visual language the band established with 2024's Romance. According to Far Out Magazine, the track wasn't originally slated for the album — it became the lead single only after the band's manager heard it and pushed them to release it.
The video: director and imagery
Meyers has previously directed videos for Travis Scott's "Sicko Mode" and Kendrick Lamar's "Humble." The "Marianne" clip leans hard into disorientation: frontman Grian Chatten emerges from a woman's eyeball and is shown smoking through a hole pierced in her ear.
The imagery reads as a signal for where Dopamine Chamber is headed — more direct and more physically uncomfortable than the register of the Romance era.
The song's connection to late manager Trevor Dietz
Earlier on the day of release, bassist Conor 'Deego' Deegan explained the song's backstory on Instagram. "Marianne" was one of roughly 40 songs the band wrote for Dopamine Chamber and had been dropped from consideration — until the band's manager, Trevor Dietz, who died in June, intervened.
Deegan wrote that when the band played Dietz the track and told him they wanted to cut it from the album, his response was: "yere absolute lunatics." That reaction is why the band ultimately chose it as the lead single.
A last session at Maida Vale
Alongside the official "Marianne" video, Fontaines D.C. also released additional footage from a BBC Radio 6 Music live session. The session, recorded at the end of last month, was the final one ever held at London's Maida Vale Studios.
