Taiwan Original Pop Music Awards Finals Set for Aug. 22 at Zepp New Taipei
The 23rd Taiwan Original Pop Music Awards (臺灣原創流行音樂大獎) will hold its finals and awards ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026 at Zepp New Taipei, a 4,000-capacity venue. Unlike most award shows, finalists don't just wait to hear a winner announced — they perform their nominated songs live on stage to compete for the top prize. A launchpad for mother-tongue music
The awards center on original songwriting in Taiwan's three major mother-tongue traditions — Taiwanese Hokkien, Hakka, and Indigenous languages. Winners are decided entirely through live performance, with nominated works spanning a wide range of styles and themes. Organizers describe the awards as a long-running bellwether for Taiwan's Golden Melody Awards, calling it a "Golden Melody weathervane."
Past finalists who went on to win at the Golden Melody Awards include Best Taiwanese Female Singer winners PiA Wu Pei-ya and Lee Chu-hsin, Best Taiwanese Male Singer winner Su Ming-yuan, Best Indigenous Language Album winner Dai Xiao-jun, and Huang Tzu-hsuan, who won both Best Hakka Singer and Best Hakka Album.
