Rotten Sprout Music Festival's 10th Edition Confirmed for New Taipei's Xinzhuang Sports Park

Published ·

Taiwan's long-running independent music festival Rotten Sprout (爛泥發芽) is marking its 10th edition this year, and organizer "Xinzhuang Boss Lee" has confirmed via the festival's official Instagram that the show will take place at Xinzhuang Sports Park's Sunshine Lawn (新莊運動公園・陽光草坪) in New Taipei City. The venue announcement comes after a planned relocation to New Taipei Metropolitan Park collapsed during the permitting process.

What was announced

Organizers say the 10th anniversary edition will feature four separate band stages, plus two non-music attractions: a karaoke setup called "Rotten Sprout Karaoke KTV" and a boxing-ring installation dubbed "Fight Club" (鬥陣俱樂部). The stated goal for this edition is to bring back bands the festival has worked with across its nine previous years, alongside acts appearing for the first time.

Why the venue changed

Rotten Sprout has moved locations multiple times across its nine prior editions, driven by urban redevelopment, the pandemic, and recurring noise complaints. In recent years the festival had settled at Xinyue Plaza in Xinzhuang. Facing fresh noise complaints there, organizers this year planned to move to New Taipei Metropolitan Park, and had reportedly locked in a date for that venue.

That plan fell apart when the authority overseeing the park's rental process rejected the booking internally, citing the festival's history of noise issues and potential impact on nearby residents. Organizers say a move to New Taipei Metropolitan Park may not be possible this year or in the future, and after the setback they are staying in Xinzhuang.

What we don't know yet

The venue is now set, but organizers have not yet released show dates, ticket prices or on-sale details, or a full lineup. Further announcements on those specifics are expected in the future.
