Turnstile Play The Stone Roses' 'I Wanna Be Adored' Live for the First Time
Baltimore hardcore band Turnstile headlined The Piece Hall in Halifax, UK, on Wednesday, August 26, and worked a live cover of The Stone Roses' "I Wanna Be Adored" into the middle of their main set — the first time the band has played the song live. According to NME, the band walked out to Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton's "Islands In The Stream," a tribute to Parton, who died earlier that week. The 21-song set closed with "T.L.C. (TURNSTILE LOVE CONNECTION)".

Where the cover came from: a Triple J session and a nod to Mani
Turnstile actually recorded the song back in March for Australian radio station Triple J's "Like A Version" segment, giving it a dreamier arrangement, but Halifax marked its live debut. Frontman Brendan Yates called it "one of my favourite songs," praising its unconventional but simple, beautiful structure at the time.
Guitarist Meg Mills singled out the bassline as one of the most iconic in music history, adding that recording the song felt like a fitting tribute following the death of Mani. Mills, who is British, said The Stone Roses were a band every kid with even a passing interest in alternative music grew up knowing, standing apart from their Manchester peers.

A reissue and a strong year for Never Enough
Turnstile also recently dropped a surprise reissue of their album Never Enough, featuring collaborators including Elton John, Hayley Williams, Blood Orange, and A.G. Cook. The original Never Enough ranked eighth on NME's albums of the year list, with single "LOOK OUT FOR ME" placing 11th on its songs of the year list; NME gave the album a five-star review at release, calling it bright, strange, and an extension of the band's pop-leaning hardcore sound.
