Oasis's Knebworth 1996 Turns 30: Fans Flood Social Media With Old Footage

August 10, 2026 (a Monday) marks 30 years since Oasis first played Knebworth Park in England in 1996 — a two-night run that drew 250,000 fans total and sold out in 24 hours. The band marked the day with an Instagram post of old photos and video, and fans flooded social media with their own footage and memories from the shows. According to NME's roundup, most posts focused on the day's travel logistics, getting into the venue, and the encore.

Oasis later released a live album drawn from the two shows, and for the 25th anniversary put out a feature-length documentary that became the UK's highest-grossing documentary film of 2021.

Fan memories: watching from the roof of a burger van

One fan wrote that it was their fifth or sixth time seeing Oasis, and that they ended up climbing onto the roof of a burger van at the back of the field, watching 125,000 people react as the opening notes of "Champagne Supernova" kicked in. Another attendee recalled the band walking onstage with giant balloons that were then knocked into the crowd, along with inflatable plastic chickens flying around, describing the night as one where "everyone was happy" — like one huge celebration.

Some fans also weighed in with comparisons: one attendee said "The Masterplan" and "Champagne Supernova" were the highlights of the show, but felt a Cardiff show they'd seen four months earlier was even better. Another fan described leaving Salford at 5am, with ten people splitting between two cars to make the drive to Knebworth. Another post recalled that without the internet in the 1990s, they only realized after arriving by train that the station wasn't actually close to the venue.

Fan accounts on X such as Oasis Archives and Oasis World Fan Page posted footage from getting into and watching the 1996 shows on the same day, including photos taken on disposable cameras. One fan wrote that it feels surreal that Knebworth was 30 years ago — as if that show, and that version of Oasis, belongs in photographs rather than in history.
