Taipei's NTCH Turns Its Performing Arts Library Into an 8-Hour Overnight Challenge

Taiwan's National Theater & Concert Hall (NTCH) is running an annual special program for its youth members called "Theatre Youth Don't Sleep: The Trial Before Dawn" (廳院青不要睡:曙光前的考驗). It kicks off at 10:00 PM on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at the NTCH Performing Arts Library in Taipei, and runs for a full 8 hours until sunrise. Framed around a "Museum of Dreams" concept, the library space is reimagined as a threshold between sleep and wakefulness, reality and imagination — participants must stay awake and complete tasks scattered through the venue before daybreak.
Who's guiding the night
The whole event is hosted by Li Ching-tai (李慶泰), billed as the "Dream Manager," who introduces participants to the rules and premise of the museum. Special guest Niao Shi (Su Chih-hsiang) (鳥屎/蘇志翔) appears as the "Sensory Envoy," leading exercises around body, sound, and breath. Fellow guest Chen Yi-en (陳以恩) takes the role of "Dream Researcher," guiding participants to gather clues and turn text into sound waves.
What the challenge involves
According to organizers, the real test comes in the second half of the night: participants must complete hidden tasks within set time windows and remain awake through to sunrise. Those who complete every task get a shot at a "Dream Pass," which grants free admission to an NTCH performance.
