Lily Allen Documentary Set for 2027, Prime Video and Theaters Confirmed

Lily Allen is getting a documentary. Prime Video has officially announced the project, targeting a 2027 release with a theatrical window planned alongside the streaming premiere. The film will be directed by award-winning filmmaker Mat Whitecross; no title has been announced yet. Prime Video is billing it as "an intimate portrait of the life and career of a global icon and voice of a generation."

The director and the film's angle

Whitecross previously directed the official Oasis documentary Oasis: Supersonic and the Coldplay documentary Coldplay: A Head Full of Dreams, giving him a track record with music-artist documentaries. According to Prime Video's official description, the film will "chart Lily's extraordinary journey from 'Queen of MySpace,' who changed the rules of the music industry, to the cultural force she is today."

The official synopsis also describes Allen as "a trailblazing woman in modern music whose sharp wit and candid storytelling paved the way directly for some of today's most important female artists." The documentary will include interviews with "those who know her best," though it's not yet clear whether Allen herself will sit for interviews or how much creative control she'll have over the production.

Context: the West End Girl album

The documentary announcement comes right on the heels of Allen's fifth studio album, West End Girl — her first new record in seven years. The album directly addresses the breakdown of her marriage to Stranger Things actor David Harbour, including infidelity allegations, and has drawn wide media attention.

Allen is currently on an international tour, performing her studio albums in full and in chronological release order, with no opening acts. Some North American dates have been scaled down, and the Montreal show has been cancelled, but the tour is still set to kick off at Madison Square Garden.
