Kelly Clarkson Closes Her Talk Show With a Cover of 'Golden'

Kelly Clarkson closed out The Kelly Clarkson Show on Monday, August 31, 2026, choosing to end the series with a cover of "Golden," the theme song from Netflix's animated hit KPop Demon Hunters. Backed by the show's house band, My Band Y'all, she sang the song's much-discussed high notes in full, drawing an extended round of applause from the studio audience. According to a Variety roundup, "Golden" was the most-requested cover in the history of the show's Kellyoke segment.

Seven Seasons, Over 1,000 Episodes, and Kellyoke

The Kelly Clarkson Show launched in 2019 and ran for seven seasons and more than 1,000 episodes, collecting 22 Daytime Emmy Awards along the way. Its signature segment, Kellyoke, had the former American Idol winner cover a different song each episode — recent covers of Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, and The Smiths tracks circulated widely online.

Clarkson announced back in February that season seven would be the show's last. In her statement, she said stepping away from the daily production schedule would let her put her kids first, calling it something that "feels necessary and right," and referenced the death of her ex-husband and former manager, Brandon Blackstock, last August.

What's Next for KPop Demon Hunters

KPop Demon Hunters has become Netflix's most-watched film ever since its release last year, with a sequel and live-action performance plans reportedly underway; an art book and a Criterion Collection Blu-ray release are currently open for pre-order.

Separately, the Christian metal band Demon Hunter has filed a lawsuit against Netflix over the film's character-driven global tour plans, alleging copyright infringement.
