Golf Jam Charity Night: Josh Homme Covers Bowie, Tom Petty and INXS
Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and producer Andrew Watt co-hosted a one-day charity event called Golf Jam on Monday, August 31, with proceeds going to the Chad Smith Foundation, which supports young people from disadvantaged backgrounds getting into music. The day began with an 18-hole championship-level round of golf and turned into a live jam session at night, with Smith and Watt inviting musicians up in rotation to run through rock classics. According to NME, Queens Of The Stone Age's Josh Homme was one of the night's highlights.

Homme took the stage for a run of covers: David Bowie, INXS, Tom Petty and Warren Zevon songs, while the rest of the night's setlist was handled by the rotating cast of musicians.

Attendees on the day included actor Will Ferrell, Joel Madden, Breckin Meyer, NBA veteran Derek Fisher, and fashion designer Jon Buscemi. From the music world: Alice In Chains bassist Mike Inez, Josh Klinghoffer, and The Doors guitarist Robby Krieger. The event also ran an auction of one-of-a-kind memorabilia to raise money for the foundation, with drinks supplied by Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston's brand Dos Hombres.
Not Homme's first Bowie moment
This isn't the first time Homme has sung Bowie in public. At the 2022 tribute concert for Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, he performed several Bowie songs alongside Nile Rodgers, Omar Hakim, Supergrass' Gaz Coombes and Jane's Addiction's Chris Chaney. Speaking to NME in 2023 about that Wembley show, Homme said "it felt really good," adding that he has always placed a high value on a sense of escape, and that he saw the performance as a way of saying goodbye to a friend.
QOTSA's new album
Queens Of The Stone Age's new album Perfecth is set for release via Matador Records on October 30, led by singles "Easy Street" and "Insignificant Other." The record was inspired by the band's stripped-down 2024 performance in the Paris Catacombs, which was also filmed as a concert video and released as the live album Alive In The Catacombs, which NME rated four stars. Perfecth follows 2023's In Times New Roman.
