Drake, BTS and Stray Kids Are Sitting Out the 2027 Grammys

Drake, BTS and Stray Kids will not submit music for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards (the 69th ceremony), according to a report by American outlet Consequence. The ceremony is scheduled for February 7, 2027, covering an eligibility period running from August 31, 2025 to August 28, 2026. Consequence notes the list of artists opting out is still being updated.
Submission rules and timeline
- Ceremony date: February 7, 2027
- Eligibility period: August 31, 2025 to August 28, 2026
- Known non-entrants so far: Drake, BTS, Stray Kids
The Grammys operate on a submission basis — artists, labels, or rights holders must actively enter a release for it to even reach the first round of judging and voting. That means a project can meet every eligibility-window requirement and still be completely absent from nominee lists if nobody submits it.
Not the first time artists have opted out
Artists skipping Grammy submissions voluntarily isn't new. Consequence points to The Weeknd, Frank Ocean, and Zach Bryan as having done the same in recent years.
The Weeknd's case is the most widely cited: after receiving zero nominations for After Hours, he publicly criticized the Recording Academy and has reportedly declined to submit work for consideration in the years since. The Academy has since made changes to its nominating committees and voting processes in response.
