Cretin Family Make Live Debut at Ramones 50th Anniversary Tribute

The Cretin Family — a one-off supergroup pairing Rancid's Tim Armstrong, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, and former Ramones bassist CJ Ramone — played its first-ever show on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles. The performance was billed as The Official Ramones 50th Anniversary Tribute, marking fifty years since the release of Ramones' self-titled debut album, the 1976 record that included "Blitzkrieg Bop," "Judy Is A Punk" and "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue" and is widely credited as a starting point for punk. According to NME, this was the first time the four musicians had shared a stage in this lineup.

Surprise guests and a packed night

Actor John Travolta opened the show. Beyond the announced four-piece lineup, additional guests joined through the set: Fred Armisen sat in on "Danny Says," Jason Freese appeared for "Do You Remember Rock 'n' Roll Radio?," and The Linda Lindas joined for "California Sun" and "I Wanna Be Sedated."

The final surprise came from Billy Idol, who closed out the night performing "Beat on the Brat," his Generation X-era track "Ready Steady Go," and capped the show with "Blitzkrieg Bop." On stage, Billie Joe Armstrong told the crowd it was the first time in his life he'd performed alongside Travis Barker, and he introduced CJ Ramone to the audience.

The evening also included a double feature film screening — a 50th-anniversary deluxe edition of Carrie alongside John Travolta's new film Propeller One-Way Night Coach.
