Carly Rae Jepsen Announces Double Album 'Day And Night,' Out September 18
Carly Rae Jepsen will release Day And Night on September 18, 2026 via Schoolboy/Interscope — the first double record of her career, landing 15 years after "Call Me Maybe" broke worldwide. The 24-track set is split evenly into a "Day" side and a "Night" side, with two additional tracks on the Japanese edition. NME's review frames the split simply: "the first disc is about mood, the second is about big songs."
Day: acoustic textures and a folk undercurrent
Jepsen recently told NME the Day side is "essentially more acoustic, bringing in more real instruments, with a bit of my own folk roots." NME calls it her most alt-leaning pop material to date: "Burning Heart" goes for psychedelic road-rock, "Wild Child" plays as a campfire ballad, and "Just A Little Walk On The Moon" drifts into loose bossa nova. Most of these songs were written after a European tour with her husband, musician and producer Cole M.G.N., who also produced several tracks. NME describes the Day side's best moments as feeling "like a memory of a summer holiday spent falling in love," though it says mid-tempo cuts like "Good Fine Alright" occasionally slip into flatter mood music.
Night: ABBA, house, and disco
The uptempo Night side is described as more propulsive. "Don't Leave Me On The Dancefloor" is noted for melodic lines that recall ABBA; the house-inflected "Motivation" addresses her family of origin and chosen family; the elegant, melancholic "Near Or Far" evokes British duo Everything But The Girl. "Amalfi Coast" is a sun-drenched disco track that NME describes as sounding "a little like Kylie Minogue on gummy bears." Lyrically, "After All" is set in a seaside home among white walls and terracotta tile, where Jepsen sings about wanting to own the house and buy flowers for a partner — while also asking that partner to take their shirt off so she can take a photo. NME's takeaway: for Jepsen, desire and domesticity aren't mutually exclusive.
Context: between pop juggernaut and cult classic
Since Emotion produced "I Really Like You" and the Vine-viral "Run Away With Me," Jepsen has been cast as pop's connoisseur's choice — tracks like 2017's "Cut To The Feeling" and 2019's "Want You In My Room" sound like should-be smashes despite comparatively modest chart performance.
