ADE Distances Itself From Panama Party Over Shlømo Booking Controversy
Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) has publicly distanced itself from a party organized by Komplott and Overgave set for Wednesday, October 21 at Amsterdam venue Panama, after the lineup drew criticism for including French DJ Shlømo, who is facing sexual misconduct allegations. ADE said in an Instagram statement that the organizers' stance directly conflicts with the festival's values.
What sparked the controversy
Shlømo (real name Shaun Baron-Carvais) was billed to play the Komplott x Overgave ADE party in what was widely seen as a comeback performance. In February, Shlømo and several other DJs, mostly from the hard techno scene, were accused of sexual misconduct, including allegations of sexual assault, after a former US-based booking agent at agency Steer Management raised the claims on social media. The allegations remain unproven and contested — Shlømo has previously responded publicly to the claims. Once the lineup was announced, Dutch DJ Xamuel pulled out of the show in protest.
What ADE said
ADE's statement called the organizers' position "inherently insensitive," adding that it runs counter to the festival's role in nurturing electronic music culture, nightlife and its community.
The decentralization defense
ADE also used the statement to clarify its own structure: the festival is decentralized, meaning individual event organizers — not ADE itself — are responsible for booking decisions. In effect, ADE does not control who gets programmed at any given affiliated party, even one running under its banner during festival week.
