Turnstile Recruit Elton John, Blood Orange and Dying Fetus for 22-Track 'Never Enough: Versions'
Hardcore band Turnstile have released Never Enough: Versions, a 22-track reworking of their 2025 album Never Enough. The project pulls in musicians from death metal, pop, electronic and indie-folk backgrounds to rewrite the original songs. Some tracks get more than one reinterpretation, others just a single version — the result stretches between preserving each song's original skeleton and letting each contributor's own voice take over. Far Out Magazine notes the project pushes past the usual boundaries of what a "remix album" is expected to be.
Who's involved, and what they did
Confirmed contributors and their tracks so far:
- Dying Fetus: turned the album's signature track "Birds" into a growled death metal version, replacing its original uplift with aggression.
- Elton John: added piano to "Seein' Stars," playing off vocalist Brendan Yates' vocal line.
- Slayyyter: delivered a separate version of "Birds," fusing hardcore with electroclash.
- Dan Deacon: reworked "Dreaming" into a synth-led piece that builds from lullaby-like calm toward something closer to a video game theme.
- Faye Webster: slowed down "I Care" into an acoustic-guitar-led ballad.
- Blood Orange and Hayley Williams: both previous collaborators on the original album return, each reworking the tracks they originally appeared on.
Turnstile's current lineup is vocalist Brendan Yates, guitarists Meg Mills and Pat McCrory, bassist Franz Lyons and drummer Daniel Fang. Each contributor was given room to rework their assigned track on their own terms.
From Glow On to Never Enough
The visibility Turnstile built with 2021's Glow On carried into Never Enough, which layered more synths and brass onto the band's hardcore foundation and brought in a string of guest musicians for a more introspective, soul-inflected sound.
Never Enough also came with a companion film directed by Yates and McCrory, built from loosely connected short segments that function as music videos for the album's songs. Yates has told Blackbird Spyplane he was thinking about the passage of time while making the record, and about the loneliness or sense of belonging that can come from being placed inside a vast universe — with each song entering a different universe of its own.
