Oasis Reunion Documentary Review: Inside "Don't Look Back In Anger"

A new documentary tracing Oasis's reunion — from first rehearsals to the closing night of their world tour — has been reviewed by NME. "Oasis: Don't Look Back In Anger" runs two hours and is directed by Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern. Its central thread, per the review, is the slow repair of the relationship between Liam and Noel Gallagher, who split acrimoniously in 2009.

From the rehearsal room to opening night in Cardiff

Before the tour's first show in Cardiff last July, there was still widespread doubt the reunion would survive without the brothers ending it in a public row — a tension the film traces back to the band's abrupt breakup at Rock en Seine in Paris in 2009.

Early in the documentary the brothers barely make eye contact, and Liam is shown leaving rehearsals before the last song even finishes. Noel describes himself as having "a fatal flaw" — an inability to forgive — while Liam recalls the hostility after the split, saying Noel talked about him "like he'd stabbed his cat."

The shift is subtle. Walking onstage for the Cardiff opener, Liam forces his hand into his brother's and raises it; Noel goes along, half-reluctantly. By later tour stops the two are holding hands onstage voluntarily. In a closing interview, Noel says the brothers are now in touch
