Slash: Guns N' Roses Have Plenty of New Material, But a 2027 Pause Is Coming
Slash has given his clearest update yet on new Guns N' Roses music, telling SiriusXM's Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk that the band has a large amount of unfinished material and will essentially pause next year to focus on pulling it together. The band's last studio album was 2008's Chinese Democracy — 18 years ago — and Slash himself has now been back in the band for over a decade. Far Out Magazine first reported the comments.
Plenty of material, but scattered
Slash said the band has "so much material," but it's "scattered all over the place" and will need time and focus to gather and actually start working on. He described organizing that material as the hardest part of the whole process.
In recent years Guns N' Roses has released only occasional singles, including "Nothin'" and "Atlas" in 2025 — but both tracks came from the Chinese Democracy-era vault rather than new writing sessions.
He also explained why new material can't move forward on tour: "It doesn't work on the road." Slash said he's used to writing late into the night and doesn't find writing on tour difficult personally, but getting the full band together to work on something simultaneously is close to impossible while touring.
Touring commitments before the pause
Before the band slows down, Guns N' Roses still has a world tour to finish. Dates before the end of the year include India, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.
Slash's own plans: The Flying Blind and a 2027 tour
Slash isn't sitting still in the meantime. His new album with Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators, The Flying Blind, is set for release on February 26, 2027, and the title track has already been released.
During the 2027 band hiatus, Slash will head out on a large-scale tour with Kennedy and The Conspirators, starting in South America in April. The UK and Ireland leg includes:
