Pete Doherty Covers Lily Allen's "Smile" at a South Korean Karaoke Session

Pete Doherty, frontman of British band The Libertines, was filmed covering Lily Allen's 2006 single "Smile" during a karaoke session in South Korea. The clip was posted by bandmate Carl Barât on Instagram on the evening of Saturday, October 4, 2026, shortly after the band arrived in the country ahead of their set at the Busan International Rock Festival. According to NME, it's unclear from the footage whether the scene was shot backstage at the festival or in a small café.

What the video shows

In the clip, Doherty — dressed in a grey suit — paces around the room delivering an indie-inflected rendition of Allen's hit. The Libertines drummer Gary Powell is seen sitting behind a drum kit, laughing as he joins in, while several onlookers clap and raise their hands.

Barât captioned the post "South Korea going well," tagging Lily Allen. Allen responded in the comments with a heart-eyes emoji.

Busan set and recent activity

The Libertines played the Busan International Rock Festival on the same day, October 4. Days earlier, Barât had appeared onstage in London with The Molotovs, joining them for a performance of The Libertines' "What A Waster."

Doherty is also currently working on a new show, The Pete Doherty Show, with Josh Pugh, featuring guests including Sleaford Mods' Jason Williamson, EastEnders actor Natalie Cassidy, Richard Bacon, and comedians Ivo Graham and Jamali Maddix. Doherty told NME the interview with Williamson was a highlight, saying there were questions he'd wanted to ask him for a long time, and that Cassidy was just as warm and down-to-earth as he'd expected.
