Otoboke Beaver Apologize After Thrown Guitar Injures Fan at Osaka Show

Japanese punk band Otoboke Beaver issued an apology on Instagram on August 11 over an incident in April at Umeda Club Quattro in Osaka, where guitarist Yoyoyoshie threw her guitar into the audience, hitting and injuring a fan. According to NME, the fan was taken away by ambulance and received seven stitches for a forehead laceration, along with a neck sprain. The band said in its statement that it was responsible for causing the accident and offered its deepest apologies to the injured fan, wishing them a full recovery.

What happened, and how the band responded

Otoboke Beaver acknowledged that its handling of the aftermath added to the fan's distress. The statement said coordination between the staff member responsible for outreach and the band itself was insufficient, and follow-up wasn't timely enough — which delayed both the direct apology and the band's public explanation.

The band also apologized to everyone who attended the show and to anyone else affected by the incident, saying it would continue to handle the matter sincerely while the fan recovers. The statement closed with: "we are truly sorry."

The show was part of drummer Kahokiss's farewell run

The Osaka date was one of three farewell performances for drummer Kahokiss, who is leaving the band for maternity leave. Leo, formerly of Shonen Knife, has since joined the band's current lineup.

In a 2022 interview with NME, singer Accorinrin said what made the band special was that no other band sounds like them, while Yoyoyoshie described the group's aim as capturing a sense of "fun and speed."

Currently on the road with Foo Fighters

Otoboke Beaver have recently been opening for six dates of Foo Fighters' "Take Cover" stadium tour, including the first of two large shows at Liverpool's Anfield. Their upcoming dates include a September appearance at Ohana Festival in California.
