Olivia Rodrigo Closes Daisy Chain Fields With Stevie Nicks Duet on "Landslide"

Olivia Rodrigo's newly launched one-day festival Daisy Chain Fields made its debut on August 29 at Great Park in Irvine, California, with Rodrigo herself closing out the Dandelion Stage. Over the course of her headline set she brought out three women musicians — Sarah McLachlan, Alanis Morissette and Stevie Nicks — ending the night with a duet on Fleetwood Mac's 1975 classic "Landslide." She also gave the live debut of her new song "Serena Joy." According to NME, every artist on the bill performed without a fee.

From Lilith Fair to "Landslide"

Sarah McLachlan was the first guest to join Rodrigo onstage. Rodrigo told the crowd there would be no Daisy Chain Fields without Lilith Fair, the women-led touring festival McLachlan founded in 1997. The two sang McLachlan's "Building A Mystery" and "Angel," dedicating both songs to Dolly Parton, who died earlier that week at age 80.

Alanis Morissette came out next, trading verses with Rodrigo on her 1996 signature track "Ironic." Stevie Nicks closed the night, joining Rodrigo for Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide." Asked shortly after the lineup was announced which song she'd want to sing in her own set, Rodrigo had answered, "'Landslide,' maybe?" — adding, "Fingers crossed."

"Serena Joy," a politically charged new track drawing on The Handmaid's Tale, got its first live performance at the show. The song hit streaming platforms this week; before that it had only been available on a limited run of 500 CDs sold exclusively at a record store near the festival grounds.

Inaugural lineup and the festival's mission

Beyond Rodrigo, the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields lineup included Chappell Roan, Doechii, Mitski, Bikini Kill, The Breeders, Garbage, Santigold, Rachel Chinouriri and Die Spitz. KATSEYE dropped out on the eve of the festival after member Megan Skiendiel sprained her ankle during tour rehearsals, with Devon Again stepping in as replacement.

All performers waived their fees, with net proceeds going to nonprofits that advocate for women's and girls' rights. The festival grounds also featured an education resource area, community art projects and installations addressing reproductive rights, maternal health, economic empowerment, domestic violence prevention and gender equality.

Rodrigo's third album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, was released this past June and received a four-and-a-half-star review from NME.
