Inside Olivia Dean's First Arena Tour: A Bet Placed Two Years Early

British singer Olivia Dean's first arena tour, The Art of Loving Live Tour, runs from April 2026 across the UK, Europe, North America and Australia — 53 arena and festival dates in total. Six shows at The O2 in London and four at Madison Square Garden in New York have all sold out, a scale that's turned heads across the industry. IQ Magazine reporter Lisa Henderson broke down the decision-making behind the tour in Part 1 of a series published in June 2026.

From waitlists to arenas: a data-driven gamble

The hardest part of the plan was that all venues had to be booked two years before Dean's breakout singles "The Art of Loving" and "Man I Need" had taken off. CAA agent Summer Marshall, who has represented Dean for nearly a decade, explained that the team pulled data widely from promoters and ticketing companies — not just past tour waitlist numbers, but real-time queue counts during presale on-sales.

Dean's previous run, a 2024 European theater tour supporting her Mercury Prize-nominated debut album Messy, closed with three nights at Hammersmith Apollo and a waitlist of more than 30,000 people. That figure became the key piece of evidence used to convince promoters to commit to arenas.

The North American market posed an even bigger challenge — Dean was jumping straight from live house venues to arena scale, skipping theaters entirely. CAA's North American agent Jenna Adler revealed that at a 2025 show at Brooklyn Paramount, she told promoters on site: "We're going to do one or two nights at Madison Square Garden." At the time, the promoters' expectation for the next step up was still Radio City Music Hall.

Planning for success: skipping theaters, waiting out awards season

Some markets — Germany, Ireland, Switzerland, Italy — initially booked smaller venues with room to upgrade later, while the team worked out how to translate an arena-scale production down to theater size.

The tour's timing was calculated too. Marshall said the team anticipated, two years out, that Dean could be nominated for the BRIT Awards and the Grammy Awards, and deliberately scheduled the tour's start after awards season: "We were planning for success." Dean went on to become the biggest winner at the BRIT Awards and the MOBO Awards, and won Best New Artist at the Grammys.

The groundwork mattered too: Dean opened for Sabrina Carpenter on the North American leg of the Short n' Sweet Tour, playing 30-minute sets to sold-out arenas every night. Adler called it "a very low-pressure but amazing primer" that reaffirmed the team's confidence in going for arena scale.
