Love Wordle? NME's Pick of the Best Music Quiz Games

NME has put together a list of daily music-themed quiz games, all playable on smartphone or desktop. Formats range from straightforward song-name guessing to layered instrument-stem reveals, artist matching by genre and debut year, and album identification from song clips. Here's the rundown by category.
Song-guessing games
- SongPop Classic: Pick three preferred genres and one preferred era, then the app plays a song and asks you to name the track or artist from four multiple-choice options. It's not especially hard — "Iris" and "I Will Survive" don't exactly sound alike — but it's addictive.
- Bandle: Also a song-guessing game, but clues start with the drum groove alone, then layer in bassline and keys in sequence until you guess correctly. It's tougher to crack than similar games, and the free version only offers one puzzle a day — a reminder that a hit song rarely rides on melody alone.
- Muzify: A desktop game where you first pick an artist — anyone from Madonna to Motörhead — then identify the correct song from an audio clip and three options. The question bank doesn't shy away from deep cuts; scoring 7 out of 10 counts as a pass.
Artist and album games
- Spotle: A random artist is set daily, and you get 10 guesses. Enter any name to start — say, Paramore — and the game tells you whether your guess matches the answer on genre, gender, country of origin, debut year, and relative popularity. There's a fair amount of luck involved.
- Musicle: Plays a song clip and asks which album it's from. The Eurovision-themed round is notoriously difficult, while the "1001 albums to hear before you die" round doubles as a decent listening list.
Pure trivia
- Pop Music Quiz: Log in at popkwiz.com to play. Questions cover pop trivia and lyric recognition. It's best to pick an era first — otherwise questions can jump from Guns N' Roses straight to Pussycat Dolls, whose second studio album, incidentally, was 'Doll Domination'.
