Naomi Scott Releases Debut Album 'F.I.G'

British artist Naomi Scott has released her debut album, F.I.G. The record draws on 1980s soft ballad songwriting and sophistipop textures, reworked into a contemporary production style. Pitchfork has already published a review of the album, describing the debut as "as stylish as it is easygoing."

What the album sounds like

Per Pitchfork's description, F.I.G isn't a retro pastiche — it takes the arranging vocabulary of 1980s ballads and the smooth surfaces of sophistipop and places them inside a modern production framework.

Sophistipop refers to a mid-1980s strand of British pop built on jazz-inflected harmony, clean arrangements and urbane vocal delivery, prioritizing polish over force. That lines up with Pitchfork's read on the record: stylized, but never uptight.

A debut LP

F.I.G is Naomi Scott's first full-length solo album. News of the release and the Pitchfork review were shared via Pitchfork's official Instagram account.
