mui zyu — the bedroom pop project of London-based, Hong Kong-rooted musician Eva Liu — has announced a Matsumoto date for September 9, 2026 (Wednesday), at the venue Give me little more. in Nagano Prefecture. The show is part of "mui zyu JAPAN TOUR 2026" and was announced by the venue via Instagram. Local weird-pop/psych-pop duo TANGINGUGUN will open.

Who Is mui zyu
Eva Liu, born in Northern Ireland with Hong Kong roots and now based in London, is also a member of the indie band Dama Scout. She launched mui zyu as a solo project in 2021. Her debut album Rotten Bun for an Eggless Century drew strong press notices, and she followed it in 2025 with the larger-scale Nothing or Something to Die For.
According to the organizer's description, her songwriting is rooted in an examination of identity — discomfort with microaggressions and assimilation pressure tied to her heritage growing up, anti-Asian hate crimes that intensified during the pandemic, and encounters with London's Asian women's community, all of which fed into starting the solo project.
Musically, mui zyu draws on Chinese ghost-story literature, folklore and mythology, as well as influences like the video game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Digitally processed guzheng and erhu tones, lo-fi beats laced with reverb and glitch, layered synths, and field recordings and sound collage — Chinese restaurant kitchen ambience, family voice messages — build a dreamlike pop where reality and fantasy blur. The organizer places her alongside names like Japanese Breakfast, Weyes Blood, Nilüfer Yanya, Aldous Harding and Julia Holter.

TANGINGUGUN is a Matsumoto-formed duo whose work mixes quietly furious, melancholy lyrics and near-kayōkyoku melodic lines into swaying echo, with an earthy psychedelic edge and subtle funk. In recent performances the two-piece has paired warped electronic beats with live bass and guitar.
