The Molotovs Announce Second Album 'Welcome To Urbia,' Out April 9, 2027

Published ·

British rock duo The Molotovs have announced their second studio album, Welcome To Urbia, for release on April 9, 2027 — just six months after their debut, Wasted On Youth, landed at number three on the UK albums chart. The band is made up of siblings Matthew Cartlidge and Issey Cartlidge, both still teenagers. Alongside the album announcement, they've released the lead single, "Urbia." According to Far Out Magazine, the pair have played close to 700 shows over the past five years.

The lead single, "Urbia"

Matthew Cartlidge said he "really wanted to shake things up" on this one. He felt "Urbia" was different from anything the band had done as soon as it was written, and that it points toward the direction of the next record — adding that as they've played more shows, his own influences have broadened. The song was barely finished by the time they got into the studio, which he says kept its energy raw.

The single draws on towns the band passed through while touring. Issey Cartlidge described the track as "quite moody and driving," leaning into a more industrial texture.

The Welcome to Urbia tour and a Razorlight support slot

The album announcement comes as the band gears up for the Welcome to Urbia tour, opening in Cardiff before hitting the following cities:

After the tour, The Molotovs will support Razorlight, including a date at OVO Arena Wembley on December 4.

How the debut album performed

Back in February, The Molotovs' debut Wasted On Youth competed against releases from Lily Allen and Olivia Dean on the UK albums chart, ultimately placing third. The band says they hope Welcome To Urbia can top that result.
