Mogwai and Super Furry Animals Design Kits for a Welsh Football Club, With Proceeds Going to Music Venue Trust
Welsh non-league football club Cwmbran Celtic FC has announced a collaboration with four British independent bands — Super Furry Animals, Mogwai, Panic Shack and Loose Articles — on kits for the 2026/27 season. The designs, made by the club's new kit supplier Tor Sports, will appear on the front of the men's and women's first-team shirts. NME first reported the news on August 4, 2026.
The kits and where the money goes
Super Furry Animals and Panic Shack each get a yellow-and-blue design, while Mogwai and Loose Articles share a green-and-white striped one. Ten percent of profit from every shirt sold goes directly to Music Venue Trust (MVT), the UK charity that campaigns for grassroots music venues. The rest of the proceeds fund the club's community programs, which include six men's and women's teams, a veterans side, walking football and youth academy squads.
The tie-in follows MVT data showing that more than half of UK grassroots venues operated at a loss last year, with an average profit margin of just 2.5%. MVT's head of Events and Communications, Toni Coe-Brooker, said the partnership "perfectly captures the essence of grassroots culture — whether it's a football club or a music venue, these are places where communities gather and futures take shape."
How the bands connect to the club
Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys revealed the band has repaired the club's 50-foot inflatable bear used at matches in Cwmbran multiple times over the years, and the kit collaboration is a way of giving back. Mogwai, who are Celtic (Glasgow) supporters, reportedly "jumped at the chance" to have their name on the green-and-white striped away kit. Loose Articles' connection comes through the drummer's mother, who lives in Cwmbran.
The collaboration was brokered by Cwmbran Celtic's joint commercial officers Matt Jarrett and Connor Cupples — the former runs a record shop in Newport, while the latter promotes gigs across the UK. Jarrett said grassroots football and grassroots music venues face the same struggles, "both hugely reliant on local community support, propped up by passionate volunteers," which made the partnership a natural fit.
Last week, Cwmbran Celtic's men's first team wore one of the new kits for the first time in a local derby against Cwmbran Town, winning 3-0. The kits are now available for pre-order, with details available on the club's official page.
