KEXP's First Asia Expedition: 12 Southeast Asian Acts Recorded in Bali

Seattle's KEXP has announced that its expedition filming crew traveled to Bali, Indonesia in August 2025 to record the Live on KEXP series' first-ever project in Asia. Working with Axean Festival, the team completed 12 sessions featuring bands and musicians from across Southeast Asia, with the whole project curated by Diana Ratsamee, host of KEXP's Eastern Echoes program.
What was announced
- Recording period: August 2025
- Location: Bali, Indonesia
- Sessions: 12 Live on KEXP recordings
- Partner: Axean Festival
- Curator: Diana Ratsamee (host of KEXP's Eastern Echoes)
Live on KEXP is the station's long-running live-session series, historically recorded in its Seattle studio, with occasional expedition shoots set up at festivals across Europe and North America. The Bali trip marks the first time the series has based a shoot in Asia.
Curatorial angle
KEXP says the sessions capture the sonic range of music scenes across Southeast Asia, featuring artists who rework existing genres in their own ways. Curator Diana Ratsamee's Eastern Echoes program centers its programming on Asian music.
What we don't know yet
The source does not name the individual artists or bands involved, nor has a release schedule for the session videos been specified. For the artist lineup and video rollout, KEXP says to watch its official channels and social accounts.
