Geordie Greep Denies Assault Allegation Made on Flyers Outside Vancouver Show

Former black midi frontman Geordie Greep was confronted with a public accusation outside his own show in Vancouver. According to footage compiled by Stereogum, a man distributed flyers to concertgoers outside The Pearl venue accusing Greep of being a "rapist" and referencing an incident on the morning of October 8. Greep addressed the allegation directly from the stage that night, denying it.

What happened outside the venue

The flyers were handed out before doors, outside the venue. They contained two short lines of text with no further explanation or contact information included. Footage of the scene was captured and circulated by the X account egemago. No public information currently available identifies the man who distributed the flyers or indicates whether any formal report has been filed with authorities.

Greep's response onstage

Once onstage, Greep addressed the allegation directly, describing the incident as a "misunderstanding" that occurred at a late-night house party, and denying that the accusation was true. He then performed a shortened version of his setlist alone, without his backing band — a departure from the full-band shows typical of this tour.

Who is Geordie Greep

Greep is the singer and guitarist of London band black midi, formed in 2017 and known for a sound spanning experimental rock, math rock, prog and post-punk. The band signed to Rough Trade Records in 2019 and released its Mercury Prize-nominated debut album Schlagenheim that same year, followed by Cavalcade (2021) and Hellfire (2022). In 2024, Greep announced black midi was going on indefinite hiatus and launched a solo career. His debut solo album, The New Sound, was released via Rough Trade on October 4, 2024, led by single "Holy, Holy," with recording sessions spanning London and São Paulo. The Vancouver date was a stop on the UK, European and US tour supporting that album.

What we don't know yet

Beyond his onstage remarks, neither Greep nor his team has issued any written statement as of this report. No details about the identity of the man distributing flyers, nor any confirmation of a police report or further investigation, have been made public. Readers looking for updates should watch Greep's official channels and Rough Trade's announcements.
