Charli XCX Sets UK Chart Record With Second Number One Album of the Year

Charli XCX has become the first British woman in history to land two number one albums in the same calendar year. Her eighth studio album, Music, Fashion, Film, has topped the UK Official Charts, joining Wuthering Heights — the soundtrack to the Emerald Fennell-directed film adaptation, which hit number one back in February 2026.

A rare double

The soundtrack includes her collaboration with Velvet Underground legend John Cale on the track "House." With this new chart-topper, Charli XCX now has four UK number one albums total: Crash (2022), Brat (2024), and this year's two — Wuthering Heights and Music, Fashion, Film.

Scoring two number one albums in a single year is a feat previously achieved by The Beatles, David Bowie, Elton John, and Ed Sheeran among British acts, and by international artists including Taylor Swift, Rihanna, and Diana Ross.

What's on the record

Music, Fashion, Film features an unexpected contributor: cult director David Cronenberg. Charli XCX also self-directed a black-and-white companion film starring longtime collaborators AG Cook and Finn Keane.

Around the release

To mark the album's release, Charli XCX held a special preview performance in Nashville where several new songs got their live debut. She's set to headline Lollapalooza on July 31, 2026.

Separately from the album, she released three B-side tracks on iTunes after teasing them on social media: "I Keep On Thinking Bout You Every Single Day and Night," "Playboy Bunny," and "If You Take the Music Then What Has She Got?"

Far Out Magazine gave Music, Fashion, Film a two-star review, saying the album shows self-awareness but not necessarily substantive depth.
