Ariana Grande Swaps Heels for Flats After Foot Injury, Wraps Nine-Night O2 Run
Ariana Grande played the last night of her nine-show Eternal Sunshine run at London's O2 Arena on Tuesday, September 1, after revealing a day earlier that a foot injury would force her to swap her signature heels for flats. She said on Instagram Stories that the show would go on as planned.
What she said about the injury
In a Monday, August 31 Instagram Stories post, Grande told fans she'd bandaged the bottom of her foot and would need to wear comfortable shoes for that night's show — and possibly the next. According to Far Out Magazine, she was clear that this was not a strain or muscle issue but, in her words, "just a deep cut."
She warned viewers they might notice her avoiding putting weight on that foot during the performance and asked them not to worry. She didn't say how the injury happened, but added that she was still looking forward to performing for the crowd even while standing "a few inches shorter than usual." She released her album Petal on July 31.
A tour finale — and a step back from the spotlight
Grande's representatives confirmed last month that after the September 1 finale, she plans to step back from public life for a period, citing what was described as "ongoing public scrutiny."
That decision also means she's withdrawing from a West End stage debut planned for next summer, in a revival of the musical Sunday in the Park with George. Speaking to audiences at an earlier stop in Chicago, she said the decision wasn't a snap reaction or an impulsive move.
