LA Band untitled (halo) Announce Self-Titled Debut Album

Los Angeles band untitled (halo) have announced their debut album, which will be self-titled, and released a lead single, "aimee lou wood freestyle." The track opens with a wall of shoegaze guitars before pivoting hard into a rap verse about a minute in — the fullest picture yet of where the band is headed. No release date or tracklist has been announced.
"aimee lou wood freestyle": from wall of sound to rap verse
The first half of the single is close to a textbook shoegaze setup: layered, heavily effected guitars under member Ariana Mamnoon's sleepy, half-dreaming vocal. About a minute in, a male voice enters with a detached, flat rap flow, pulling the song in a completely different direction.
According to Stereogum, the shift recalls the texture of SALEM's earliest work — lyrics drifting between references to 666 and black imagery, delivered in a cold, affectless tone. The outlet also suggested that this genre-blurring feel seems to be exactly what the band is going for.
