SUMMER SONIC 2026 Day Two: Ado and David Byrne Close Out a Rain-Soaked Tokyo, THE STROKES Headline Osaka's Finale

SUMMER SONIC 2026 moved into its second day on Saturday, August 15. At the Tokyo site (Zozo Marine Stadium / Makuhari Messe), the second of three days saw Ado headline the main stage, with Mountain Stage running a double closer of David Byrne following Sakanaction. Osaka, which runs only two days, wrapped up its festival entirely on the 15th, with THE STROKES headlining the AIR stage. Forecasts had called for clouds clearing to sun, but Tokyo saw rain for nearly the entire day.

Critic Yoichiro Yamazaki, writing in his rockinon.com editor-in-chief diary posted the day of the show, described Byrne's set as thoroughly "correct" — the visuals, lighting, musician roles, stage movement and choreography, expressions, and even gender and ethnic balance all "correct," giving off an almost fastidious sense of cleanliness.

On the weather front, WWDJAPAN's street-style coverage from the day reported that rain returned for the second day running, with fans largely switching to light rain gear and folding umbrellas — with many simply skipping the umbrella and watching the show in the rain.

The lineup spanned five stages — AIR, MOUNTAIN, SONIC, MASSIVE, and PAVILION — bringing Osaka's run to a close. THE STROKES' Osaka headline set also continued fan discussion around the setlist choices following their Tokyo show the previous day.

SB19 and the online broadcast

Filipino P-pop group SB19 played Tokyo's Pacific Stage (17:50–18:30), one of the few Southeast Asian acts to receive dedicated set-time coverage on day two; label-mates BINI are scheduled for Tokyo's third day (August 16) on Mountain Stage, per reporting from GMA News.
