A journey from American highways to Derry
According to the announcement, decembers follows SOAK across American roads and cities, down frost-lit Dublin streets late at night, then to Portugal to watch for shooting stars, before finally returning to Derry, the city she calls home.
That route doubles as a path both outward and inward — distance and closeness, release and disorder, familiar things shifting position along the way. The album is described as a record of body, space and memory crossing over one another, and of how a person sees the world differently after stepping outside their comfort zone.
Made after losing her voice
SOAK was affected by an autoimmune illness during the making of decembers, at one point losing the ability to sing altogether. The label frames the album — born out of that silence — as her most vivid and ambitious work yet in both music and lyrics: a record about losing one's voice, but not stopping there.
