Maribou State Announce Hiatus, Final Show Set for London on August 31
British electronic duo Maribou State are going on hiatus. Member Liam Ivory told Mixmag the group needs time to "reset physically and mentally" before deciding on next steps. The pair will still play out their scheduled summer dates, including Forwards Festival in Bristol on Saturday, August 29, 2026, and LIDO Festival in London on Monday, August 31, 2026 — a UK bank holiday, and the last show before the break.
Why the Hiatus, and What the Last Show Looks Like
Ivory said the Hallucinating Love tour has run for 18 months, and rather than pushing straight into another cycle as they've done before, "now is the time to really stop." He noted the album itself grew out of health struggles, and it would be contradictory to burn themselves out again right after making a record about resilience.
He added that this isn't a step away from music, but an effort to make sure the next phase isn't built on the same unsustainable pace, and to build a life not entirely dictated by the touring schedule. For the LIDO Festival date, the duo want it to feel "not like an ending, but like a marker" — a way of closing out this album and era. The show will feature a full band with orchestra in a large-scale production, one of the few times they've brought out this biggest version of their live set.
The Story Behind Hallucinating Love
Maribou State took a shorter break in 2024; this hiatus is longer. Ivory recalled that touring ended in 2019 right as lockdown hit, timing he called "rather cruel" — years of poor sleep and self-neglect surfaced all at once when they were forced to stop, sending anxiety spiking into ongoing health anxiety, underpinned by a loss of purpose and burnout.
Bandmate Chris Davids was dealing with his own physical and mental health issues at the same time; both members struggled, though in very different ways. Ivory described working on new material during that period as feeling like "wading through mud."
Their third album, Hallucinating Love, came out last year, with a deluxe edition released recently. NME gave it four stars, describing it as building on the duo's signature sound while adding new melodic lines and a euphoric alt-pop songwriting approach.
