Kelly Osbourne Breaks With Mother Sharon Over Support for Far-Right March
Kelly Osbourne has publicly distanced herself from her mother Sharon Osbourne's support for far-right activist Tommy Robinson, saying in an interview with UK LGBTQ+ outlet Attitude that this is one issue where she can clearly say she disagrees with her mother. The interview was recorded at the National Television Awards (NTAs) and reported by NME on September 9. Sharon had commented on one of Robinson's posts back in April confirming she would attend his "Unite The Kingdom" rally in London's Trafalgar Square in May — a move that led at least one charity partner to cut ties with her.
What happened
Sharon Osbourne left a comment reading "See you at the march" under a Robinson social media post, widely read as confirmation she would attend the rally. In the aftermath, UK homelessness charity Centrepoint, which had previously worked with Sharon, announced it was ending its relationship with her.
Asked about her mother's support for Robinson, Kelly said it was something she could point to as a clear point of disagreement between them. She added that the situation isn't simple for her: she loves her mother, but also has to accept her mother is entitled to her own opinions — and that politics generally "isn't her area."
A deeper split over trans issues
Sharon Osbourne has also made controversial comments on youth gender transition. Appearing on The Sage Steele Show in 2024, she said she opposed gender transition for people under 18, comparing it to declaring "today I feel Japanese" and calling the idea "crazy."
Kelly described realizing how far apart she and her mother are on trans issues as upsetting. She said she isn't sure her mother knows enough trans people to form a fair judgment, while for her, it's simply the world she lives in — she said she can't imagine how hard it must be to be born in a body that isn't yours. In the same interview, Kelly said the LGBTQ+ community is the one place that has accepted her unconditionally.
