Joan Jett Cancels September Tour Dates After Spinal Fracture Surgery

Joan Jett has canceled two shows originally scheduled for September 2026 in Costa Mesa, California and Louisville, Kentucky. Jett's team announced the news via an Instagram story, citing a recent spinal fracture that required orthopedic surgery and a course of rehabilitation.

The statement

The official statement read: "Following a recent injury, Joan Jett has undergone orthopedic surgery for a spinal fracture and will now begin the necessary rehabilitation process." It added that the cancellation came "after close consultation with her treating physician," and that Jett will focus on physical therapy while looking forward to "delivering incredible shows to fans for years to come."

Fresh off a UK tour, and a loss for the band

The cancellation comes just after Jett wrapped her first UK tour in 16 years — six shows that included support from UK political punk duo The Meffs and a stop at the new Kensington Olympia venue, British Airways ARC. Joan Jett & The Blackhearts had also opened for My Chemical Romance at Wembley Arena in London in July. Across the UK run, the band shared bills with Skunk Anansie, Sunny Day Real Estate, Mogwai, Echo & The Bunnymen, Interpol, and Idlewild.

The news also follows the death of Thommy Price, who drummed for Joan Jett & The Blackhearts from 1987 to 2017. He was 68. Jett wrote on social media: "We lost a member of the Blackheart family, the one and only Thommy Price. He was a drummer's drummer, and revered by so many."
