L7 Bassist Jennifer Finch's Brain Cancer Fundraiser Tops $300K, With Green Day, Pearl Jam, Garbage Leading Donations
L7 bassist Jennifer Finch has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer, the band announced on Monday, July 13, 2026. Within less than three days of the announcement, a GoFundMe campaign set up on her behalf had raised more than $300,000 — blowing past its original $150,000 goal, which has since been raised to $350,000. The news comes just about two months after L7 announced their farewell run, "The Last Hurrah Tour," originally set to begin in October.
Who's donated
The fundraiser has drawn support from a wide swath of Finch's musical peers. Epitaph Records founder and Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz, along with his wife Gina, gave $10,000 — the largest known donation from a musician so far. Garbage contributed $8,000, calling Finch "such a special soul" who "urgently needs professional medical care."
Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament, Bikini Kill's Kathleen Hanna, and Adrienne Armstrong, wife of Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, each gave $5,000. Tool's Maynard James Keenan and Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman each donated $2,500, while KoRn's Brian "Head" Welch and Fugazi's Guy Picciotto each gave $1,000. One anonymous donor gave a single $40,000 contribution.
R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe reshared the fundraiser link on Bluesky, writing that punk and alternative music's development owes much to Jennifer Finch's contributions. Courtney Love has also helped spread the word, with campaign organizer Aubree Miller thanking both the full L7 lineup and Love for their support in a recent update.
Tour plans and band background
In its statement, L7 said Finch herself has asked the band to continue with "The Last Hurrah Tour" without her. The band broke up in 2001 and reunited with its original lineup in 2015. They released their first new studio material in 18 years in 2017, followed by their most recent album, Scatter the Rats, in 2019. Earlier this year, in February, the band put out the single "I Came Back To Bitch."
The GoFundMe page remains open for donations to help cover Finch's treatment, rehabilitation, and ongoing care costs.
