Gilla Band Share Video for New Single 'Alogia,' Announce New Album 'Pugnello' for September 25
Dublin noise-rock outfit Gilla Band have released a new single, "Alogia," alongside a music video directed by Cuan Roche. It's the second preview track — following earlier single "Placeholder" — from their forthcoming album Pugnello, out September 25. The title "Alogia" is a psychiatric term referring to poverty of speech associated with certain mental states.
The story behind 'Alogia'
Frontman Dara Kiely has said the song draws directly on his own experience: "Alogia" refers to poverty of speech linked to mental health conditions, and he was diagnosed with schizophrenia while writing the lyrics.
Kiely has also said he initially thought getting out and walking around would be enough to shake the state he was in, but it wasn't that simple. Turning that hard-to-articulate psychological experience into sound is central to how "Alogia" is arranged.
The new album, 'Pugnello'
Pugnello continues Gilla Band's characteristically sharp, restless, highly experimental sound. Two tracks are out so far: "Placeholder" and "Alogia."
