Four Tet Quietly Drops Surprise 8-Track Album on Bandcamp

Four Tet (Kieran Hebden) has quietly uploaded a new eight-track album to Bandcamp with zero announcement and zero promotion, releasing it under the cryptic, symbol-only alias he's long used for stealth drops. Both the artist name and every track title appear as unreadable strings of symbols, leaving the release to surface only if listeners stumble onto it themselves.

How it dropped, and those symbol titles

There was no teaser via press or social channels — Hebden simply uploaded the record straight to Bandcamp. The all-symbol alias is a long-running alter ego for Hebden, one he's used before specifically to dodge mainstream recognition.

Fans who've already bought the tracks report that some of the symbol-string titles are so extremely long that they cause display issues in file names on their computers — the sheer density of characters has reportedly triggered compatibility problems on some devices and playback software.

Context

The release continues Four Tet's long pattern of unconventional rollouts. Hebden has repeatedly put out music quietly or anonymously in the past, deliberately sidestepping streaming algorithms and press cycles in favor of letting the work reach listeners in its rawest form. No label or representative has offered further comment on this release so far.
