Fishmans Confirm 2027 Tokyo Show, Bassist Yuzuru Kashiwabara Set to Return in Spring
Japanese band Fishmans have announced a single Tokyo performance titled "Uchu Nippon Tokyo 2027 -Teion Returns-" (宇宙 日本 東京2027 -低音リターンズ-), set for April 29, 2027 (Thursday, a public holiday) at SGC HALL ARIAKE in Tokyo. It's the band's first standalone Tokyo show in two years, and it lands in 2027 — the 30th anniversary of their landmark album Uchu Nippon Setagaya. The show's subtitle, "Teion Returns" (roughly, "Bass Returns"), points to the reason behind the announcement: bassist Yuzuru Kashiwabara (柏原讓) is coming back to the band. Drummer and vocalist Kinichi Motegi confirmed in a statement released the same day that Kashiwabara, who has been resting since last summer, will rejoin in spring 2027. Motegi's Announcement: Kashiwabara Returns in Spring 2027
In a message dated September 29, 2026, Motegi wrote that Kashiwabara will return in spring 2027, and that the bassist — who has been resting since last summer — will once again make the low end ring out. Motegi added that he hopes attendees will fully experience Fishmans' live sound at this stage of the band's history. The announcement also listed the current lineup: Kinichi Motegi (drums, vocals), Yuzuru Kashiwabara (bass), and HAKA.
Why 2027, and Why "Tokyo"
The concert's title follows the naming logic of the band's 1997 album Uchu Nippon Setagaya, swapping out "Setagaya" (a Tokyo ward) for "Tokyo." 2027 marks exactly 30 years since that album's release, and Fishmans' own announcement frames the show's timing around that anniversary.
