Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary: Distant Worlds Tour Announced

Square Enix has unveiled Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary Distant Worlds: Music From Final Fantasy Eternal/悠久, a concert tour marking the series' 40th anniversary. The tour opens March 20, 2027 at International Forum Hall A in Tokyo, and runs through a final date on March 25, 2028 in Indianapolis, with stops in Osaka, North America, the UK, Singapore and Seoul along the way. Conductor Arnie Roth leads a symphony orchestra, chorus and soloists, accompanied by newly produced HD video projections from Square Enix. According to NME, some dates go on sale October 6, with further ticketing details to be announced.

Setlist and Composers

The program draws on works by the series' longtime composers, including Nobuo Uematsu, Masashi Hamauzu, Naoshi Mizuta, Hitoshi Sakimoto, Yoko Shimomura and Masayoshi Soken. According to the official press release, performances will be synced with HD video produced by Square Enix tracing 40 years of the series' gaming technology — framing the 40 years since the Prelude theme first played against the 30 years since the Opening – Bombing Mission theme first brought players into Midgar, addressing generations of players from Cornelia and Eorzea to Valisthea.

Distant Worlds and the Series' Background

The original Final Fantasy launched on the NES in 1987, spawning 15 mainline sequels along with numerous spin-offs, remakes and adaptations.

The Distant Worlds concert series has run since 2007, led by conductor Arnie Roth, touring globally with a symphony orchestra, chorus and multimedia visuals, with its setlist continually expanding alongside new entries in the series.
