Dave Grohl Secretly Paid for C.O.C. Drummer Reed Mullin's Addiction Treatment, Pepper Keenan Reveals

Corrosion of Conformity (C.O.C.) singer-guitarist Pepper Keenan has revealed, for the first time, that Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl personally paid for C.O.C. drummer Reed Mullin's addiction treatment. Mullin, C.O.C.'s longtime drummer, died in January 2020 at age 53, according to a report from Consequence.

Mullin's declining health and Grohl's quiet support

Mullin struggled with serious health problems in his final years. In 2016, an alcohol-related seizure marked a sharp downturn in his condition. Keenan says it was during this difficult period that Grohl stepped in and covered the cost of Mullin's addiction treatment — a gesture that had never been made public before now.

Mullin was a founding member of Corrosion of Conformity and a key figure in the American Southern metal and hardcore scenes. He died in January 2020 at 53.

Grohl's longtime ties to the metal and hardcore community

Before fronting Foo Fighters, Grohl drummed for Nirvana through the alternative rock explosion of the 1990s and has maintained close relationships with hardcore and metal musicians ever since. Keenan's disclosure adds another data point to a pattern: beyond his public persona, Grohl has a history of quietly supporting peers behind the scenes.
