Tainan Freedom of Speech Day

Tainan Freedom of Speech Day (我主張 臺南言論自由日) is a free civic music event staged by the Tainan City Government to mark Freedom of Speech Day, commemorating the democracy activist Deng Nan-jung (Nylon Deng). The 2026 concert takes place on Sunday 5 April at the Tainan Cultural & Creative Industries Park (臺南文化創意產業園區), a converted heritage complex right beside Tainan's main railway station. The 2026 theme is "Sing Out" (「唱」所欲言) — with a pangolin as its key visual, symbolising quiet voices breaking through to be heard. Alongside the concert there's an installation exhibition running from 5 April into early May, plus linked pop-up shows and podcast discussions around free expression.

Entry is free — no ticket needed, just arrive. The concert and exhibition are open to the public with no registration or payment.

Route: The venue is one of the easiest in Taiwan to reach — it sits directly opposite Tainan Railway Station (rear/north exit), a 2–5 minute walk. From the high-speed network, take THSR to Tainan (Shalun), then the connecting TRA shuttle two stops to Tainan Station. Kaohsiung (KHH) and the small Tainan airport (TNN) are the nearest airports; most international visitors route via Kaohsiung or Taipei.

Staying: Plenty of hotels sit within walking distance of Tainan Station, making a car unnecessary. Early April is warm and pleasant — light clothing and sun protection are enough.
