About
Spring Scream (春天吶喊) is Taiwan's original outdoor music festival, running since 1995 on the southern beaches of Kenting over the early-April Tomb-Sweeping holiday. It's a spring-break-style, multi-stage, multi-day gathering of rock, punk, indie and hip-hop that has a long tradition of welcoming foreign bands and backpackers. Think beachside stages and a laid-back holiday crowd at the very southern tip of the island.
Lineup
Spring Scream is an open-call showcase rather than a headliner festival: recent editions have fielded around 200 mostly indie, punk and rock acts from Taiwan, the rest of Asia, Europe and North America across several beachside stages. There is no single headliner to announce — the full 2026 bill is posted on the official site closer to the event.
How foreigners buy tickets
- Buy through the official channels. Spring Scream is a small, famously foreigner-friendly festival — tickets were sold through the official Facebook page and at the gate, with no Taiwan ID or ARC needed. (The festival's old website is no longer online.)
- First-come, not a lottery. Passes go on sale ahead of the event and at the gate; there's no ballot to enter. Multi-day passes are the usual buy.
- Foreign cards usually work, but carry cash. International cards are generally accepted online; because it's a small beachside operation, bring cash as a backup for on-site tickets, food and drinks.
- Collect a wristband on-site. Buy online then exchange for an entry wristband at the gate (will-call); download or screenshot your confirmation before you travel.
- No proxy needed. Unlike big domestic-only Asian festivals, Spring Scream is set up for foreign visitors — you won't need an agent or a local phone number.
Getting there & staying
Route: Fly into Kaohsiung International (KHH), then take the THSR to Zuoying and the Kenting Express bus (墾丁快線) down to Kenting — roughly 2–2.5 hours total. There is no railway to Kenting, so it's bus, taxi or scooter.
⚠️ Last bus: Kenting Express and local buses thin out in the evening — check the last departure, or plan to stay overnight in Kenting rather than commuting back to Kaohsiung after the stages.
Staying: Camping and beachside guesthouses/B&Bs (民宿) in Kenting are the classic option and put you next to the action; the holiday weekend books out early, so reserve well ahead.
Bring: Southern Taiwan in April is hot and sunny on exposed beaches — sun protection, water and a hat are essential; nights can be breezy.
