Rock in Japan is one of the country's highest-attended festivals, held at Soga Sports Park in Chiba over several days in late summer (in 2026 across two weekends in September). Its lineup is almost entirely domestic — the definitive snapshot of the current Japanese mainstream, from Ado and Number_i to Bump of Chicken — with Japanese-language signage throughout. It is a festival for travellers specifically chasing J-rock and J-pop, rather than a general Western-lineup event.

Rock in Japan 2026's full lineup — around 115 acts across five September days — is announced. It is almost entirely domestic; main-stage headliners and notable acts include:

1. Expect the domestic platforms. Unlike Fuji Rock or Summer Sonic, Rock in Japan is sold through Japan's domestic ticketing (e+, Ticket Pia, Lawson Ticket) with no English international portal.
2. A Japanese phone number is the main blocker. These platforms require SMS/voice verification on a Japanese 090/080/070 number at registration, and you cannot receive the SMS from abroad; a Japanese address is usually expected too.
3. It sells by lottery. Big domestic shows use 抽選 (lottery) entry windows that open weeks ahead — you apply, then pay only if you win, which is awkward to time around flights.
4. Card acceptance is uneven. Lawson usually accepts foreign cards; Pia and e+ often reject them. Konbini (Lawson Loppi / 7-Eleven) pickup only works once you're in Japan.
5. Use a proxy agent. Non-residents generally buy through an agent (Tickets Galore Japan, Ticket Japaaan, Jasumo) who registers and enters the lottery with their own Japanese account for a fee. Tickets are name-registered, so avoid private resale.

Route: Tokyo Station → Soga Station on the JR Keiyō / Sotobō line (~50–60 min), then a short walk or shuttle to Soga Sports Park.

⚠️ Last train: it's a day-access city festival — check the last train back to central Tokyo before the closing act.

Staying: no camping; base yourself in a Chiba or central Tokyo hotel on the Keiyō line and commute. Book early, as a festival weekend tightens local rooms.
