Rainforest World Music Festival

The Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF, 2026: Jun 26–28) is a globally ranked world-music institution set inside a rainforest at the Sarawak Cultural Village, below Mount Santubong on the island of Borneo. Days are given to hands-on cultural workshops and jam sessions; evenings to concerts on the main stages, with artists from a dozen-plus countries. Drawing visitors from around the world and run in English, it is one of the most genuinely foreigner-oriented festivals in Asia — a bucket-list destination event rather than a big-name pop bill.

The 29th Rainforest World Music Festival (26–28 June 2026, theme "Regenerations: Roots & Rhythms") drew over 200 performers from a dozen countries across three nights of main-stage concerts. Confirmed headliners and notable acts:

1. Buy direct in English. Tickets are sold on the official site rwmf.net (fulfilled via Ticket2u), which is English-language and built for an international audience. No Malaysian ID or address is required.
2. First-come, not a lottery. Day and 3-day passes go on sale online; early-bird tiers are cheapest. There is no ballot.
3. Foreign cards work. International Visa and Mastercard are accepted; an OTP / 3D-Secure step may appear, so use a verification-enabled card with a backup.
4. E-ticket, then wristband. You receive a QR e-ticket to exchange for an entry wristband on arrival at Damai; carry the actual passport you booked under as ID backup.
5. If it sells out. Use reputable resale only. Because the festival is so foreigner-friendly, most people simply buy direct well ahead — it is not a scalper-driven sale.

Route: Fly into Kuching International Airport (KCH) — direct from KL, Singapore and some regional hubs. The Sarawak Cultural Village at Damai is ~35 km / ~45 min from Kuching city, reached by taxi/Grab or the official festival shuttle that runs from Kuching hotels.

⚠️ Last shuttle: concerts run late; confirm the last shuttle back to Kuching or you may be stranded at Damai — the safest fix is to stay at a Damai beach resort near the site.

Staying: The Damai resorts (walk/short ride to the gate) sell out months ahead; the budget alternative is a Kuching city hotel plus the daily shuttle. On-site camping is not the norm.

Bring: It is a hot, humid rainforest with frequent evening rain — bring a poncho, insect repellent, sturdy footwear for muddy ground, and some cash, as cashless coverage on site is limited.
