About
Monsoon Music Festival is Hanoi's signature contemporary festival, founded by musician Quốc Trung, mixing regional and Western indie, rock and pop bookings in a scenic old-city setting. It runs in autumn (roughly October–November). Important: Monsoon has run only intermittently, so before you plan anything, verify that an edition is actually happening in your target year — the official site can go dormant between editions. When it does run, it is northern Vietnam's flagship music festival and a rewarding, offbeat pick.

Monsoon runs only intermittently and no current-year edition is confirmed. The last major edition (Monsoon Music Festival 2023, Hanoi, Oct 14–22) gathered 40+ acts from 13 countries, including:

How foreigners buy tickets
- First — confirm it's running. Check the official channels for a current-year edition before booking flights; do not assume it happens annually.
- Buy on Vietnam's local platform. When on sale, tickets go through Ticketbox (ticketbox.vn), Vietnam's main e-ticketing platform, which is English-navigable. No Vietnamese ID or address is required.
- First-come, not a lottery. Passes sell online at a set time; there is no ballot. Buy early for lower tiers.
- Foreign cards work. International Visa and Mastercard are generally accepted on Ticketbox; an OTP / 3D-Secure step may appear, so use a verification-enabled card with a backup.
- QR e-ticket, no real-name check. Delivery is a QR e-ticket to your email/app; there is no strict gate-ID matching, so a transferred ticket generally works. Use reputable resale only.
Getting there & staying
Route: Fly into Noi Bai International Airport (HAN), ~40 min by Grab/taxi to the old quarter. Recent editions have been staged at central sites such as the Imperial Citadel of Thăng Long — confirm the exact venue for the current edition.
Staying: A city festival — no camping. Stay in an Old Quarter or Hoan Kiem hotel and take a short Grab to the venue.
Bring: Hanoi's autumn is mild with occasional rain — bring a light layer and a compact umbrella/poncho, and download your QR ticket offline.
