The Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival is one of the largest jazz festivals in the world, held each year in late May at the JIExpo Kemayoran convention centre in central Jakarta. Across three days and many indoor, air-conditioned halls it programmes hundreds of acts — global jazz, soul, R&B and world-music headliners alongside Indonesia's deep home scene. The indoor, city-centre format makes it one of the most comfortable and foreigner-friendly festivals in Southeast Asia: no mud, no camping, and an English-comfortable urban crowd.

How foreigners buy tickets
- Buy online in advance — it's first-come, not a lottery. Passes are sold on the official site (javajazzfestival.com) and Indonesian ticketing platforms; there is no ballot, so buy as soon as daily and 3-day passes go on sale.
- No local phone or ID needed. Indonesian festival sites register you by email and accept overseas buyers; you do not need an Indonesian phone number, address or national ID to check out.
- Foreign cards generally work. International Visa/Mastercard are accepted, but the local payment gateway may trigger a 3D-Secure/OTP step that some foreign cards fail. Have a second card ready.
- If your card is declined, use an international reseller. Klook and KKday often list Indonesian festival tickets and handle foreign cards cleanly — but check whether you receive a direct QR e-ticket or a voucher you must redeem at a box office on site.
- Delivery is a QR e-ticket. Download it offline before you go; at the venue you scan in (some editions swap the QR for a wristband). Keep a screenshot as backup.
Getting there & staying
Route: fly into Soekarno-Hatta International (CGK). From the airport take the Airport Rail Link toward BNI City/Manggarai, or simply use Grab/Gojek ride-hailing straight to JIExpo Kemayoran (~45–75 min depending on traffic).
Getting around: Jakarta has no rail line to the venue, so ride-hailing (Grab/Gojek) is the default and runs 24h — there is no "last train" trap. Budget extra time for Jakarta's heavy traffic.
Staying: this is a city festival — book a normal hotel in central Jakarta (Kemayoran, Kuningan or Sudirman are convenient) and commute by Grab. No camping. Book ahead, as a festival weekend lifts citywide hotel demand.
Bring: the halls are indoor and heavily air-conditioned, so a light layer helps; outside it is hot and humid. Carry some cash plus a card — many stalls take GoPay/OVO e-wallets that foreigners can't easily top up.
